Treatment with a high energy diode laser

Periodontal disease (periodontitis) is the most common dental disease after caries. The disease encompasses the entire support of the tooth with the adjacent gingiva (wreath), the cause of which is the chronic bacterial infection. Periodontal disease is also the main cause of adult teeth loss.

Laser treatment (laser curettage of the periodontal pocket) is performed after the classical oral hygiene performed by the dentist (removal of the tartar and other traumatic factors). The method has been made both with its simplicity of performance and with very good clinical results.

Laser curettage is a routine, highly effective method of removing infected granulation tissue. The relatively low intensity laser energy, introduced into the pocket, causes coagulation and subsequent rapid removal (for about one day) of the necrotic and infected part of the epithelium.   The process is self-limiting because of the impossibility of light with sufficient energy to cause coagulation to penetrate to depths of more than a few tenths of a millimeter. Underneath the coagulated tissue, a strongly stimulated layer of cells is observed which enhances the ability for rapid regeneration. The process is accompanied by induced mechanical attachment (attachment of the treated gingiva to the tooth), improving the healing conditions, and consequently a sense of immediate effect.

Curettage is carried out without blood, without pain. The recovery process takes place quickly (for about a day). After a laser curettage, no bandages are required.

There are no bleeding discomfort, restrictions on feeding, changes in social and professional activity. Despite the fact that laser manipulation is relatively more expensive, the complex treatment ultimately comes out cheaper because of lack of complications, time savings, restriction or lack of additional medication.

How it is do?

Therapy is performed after clinical oral hygiene.

Laser power in continuous mode - from 0.7W to 1W.

The tip of the fiber is inserted into the full depth of the pocket.
Carefully grip the pocket to get a sense of its geometry.

Pull the fiber around 1-2mm. The laser starts. The fiber is moved in horizontal and vertical directions, from the bottom to the outside, encompassing the epithelium and the adjacent connective tissue. The fiber moves smoothly, at a moderate speed of about 10-15 seconds.

It is recommended, additional low level laser therapy is used to confirm the achieved good results . It is introduced into the complex individual treatment plan 2-3 days after the cure treatment and every 6 months to one year in the maintenance treatment.

After periodontal treatment, the main cause of frequent failure and the best periodontal treatment is the re-accumulation of aggressive dental plaque. This is usually due not to reduced oral hygiene but to the fact that no new plaque formation is invisible. It is recommended to enter the so-called "Controlled Oral Hygiene". It consist of to control several times a week, at home, with dental plaque detectors.
